HOW TO RESOLVE A WORKPLACE ISSUE

Do you have a workplace issue and don’t know how to resolve it? Here’s a step by step guide:

STEP ONE – SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER

Many issues can be resolved informally by speaking directly with your line manager so you should always approach them with your concerns and issues in the first instance

STEP TWO – SPEAK TO YOUR COLLEAGUES

You may find your issue is a collective one. If so, nominate a lead who will raise the issue with your Unison Branch

STEP THREE – CONTACT YOUR WORKPLACE UNISON REP FOR ADVICE

All of our stewards are fully trained to confidentially support you with your workplace issue. If you don’t have a rep in your workplace or don’t know who your rep is, you should contact your Unison Branch. It is always best to put your query in writing if you can

STEP FOUR – START A FORMAL PROCEDURE

If your matter remains unresolved, then you should start a formal procedure using your employers policies (eg/grievance, flexible working). These can be found on your intranet or you can ask your manager or HR for a copy. Support will be available throughout this process from one of our experienced reps.

STEP FIVE – STRENGTHEN YOUR WORKPLACE

Unison is built on the collective strength of our members. The more Unison members in your workplace – the more power we have to prevent and solve issues. Recruit your colleagues and get them to join Unison. You could even be our next activist and become a union rep yourself!
