MFT News – Staff Car Parking
The Government period of free car parking for NHS staff, introduced during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, ended on 1 April 2022. MFT did extend this period for a time but car parking charges will return from 1 November 2022. The costs have been restructured to a system where the cost of car parking is in line with staff salaries.
Key information
Staff car parking tariffs from 1 November will be based on a percentage fee of 0.95% of each individual salary banding, with maximum capped fee rates of £780 per annum. This means that the vast majority of staff at Band 5 and below will pay less for their permit than before the COVID-19 pandemic started.
In line with the NHS mandatory changes to car parking staff who are registered Blue Badge Holders and those who are contracted as Permanent Night Workers, will receive a car parking permit free of charge. Likewise, staff who wish to hold a car parking permit, work on a rotational basis, and regularly undertake night shifts will be charged at 0.63% of salary.
What do you need to do?
Staff car parking tariffs are paid directly via salary deductions monthly.
If you currently hold a car parking permit and no longer require it from 1 November, please complete and return via email the ‘Deactivation Form’ to your respective site Car Parking Teams no later than 24th October 2022.

If you do not submit this form then you will be charged from 1 November.
From 1 November, staff car parking permit holders will be required to return to their allocated car park, including near site car parks and designated staff parking levels.
Please remember that you need an active and valid car parking permit for your allocated car park before parking.
From 1 November staff who do not hold a permit and wish to park on site, must park in the public car parking areas/levels and will be eligible for the staff discounted rate of £6 per day. Further information will be communicated by MFT so please look out for the global communications.
