NHS Pension Scheme – the McCloud Judgement

Removing age discrimination – the McCloud judgement

In 2015, the Government introduced reforms to most public service pension schemes, including the NHS Pension Scheme.

The pension tapering was initially challenged and subsequently won by the Fire Brigades Union. To prevent the need for every other public sector union pursuing a similar case, the Government reviewed the various public sector schemes and concluded that to stay within the law they would have to undo some of the changes they had made, including some of the changes made to the NHS scheme.

UNISON has produced a factsheet to try to explain what this means for members of the NHS scheme, including questions on if and when and members will move to the 2015 scheme in light of the McCloud judgement. This factsheet can be found here: McCloud-FAQs

There is also some other information on Unison’s website Get Pension Help

There are legal restrictions on who can give pensions advice as it is covered by the Regulations regarding financial advice so Unison can’t answer individual questions. Hopefully the factsheet Factsheet will answer some of your questions and more info personal/technical questions can be directed to NHS Pensions via their helpline on 0300 3301 346
