International Women’s Day 2023

8th March 2023 marks International Women’s Day!

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Around three-quarters of UNISON members are women. UNISON campaigns for equality in the workplace and for improvements to women’s rights in the workplace and in the wider community. We embrace equality, celebrate Women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.

We also support campaigns aimed at improving women’s lives, for example, to change the law to protect women experiencing domestic violence, or to raise awareness of health issues which mainly affect women. Take a look at what we do!

As a member of UNISON, you have the support and guidance of thousands of other women members, who face the same workplace challenges as you. If you encounter issues such as the gender pay gap or denial of your maternity rights, UNISON can help you with practical information, support and legal advice. Contact your local Branch on 0161 291 5212 or 0161 701 0056.

The majority of our members, in fact the majority of the workforce in the public sector, are women. We form the largest voice in UNISON leading the organisation in nearly every activity. Why not consider becoming more involved in your union. Read more about the role of our Women’s group HERE
