Stronger together in UNISON

Since the creation of MFT, the Trust have looked at ways some services are being delivered with a view to making changes. Before the merger UNISON and other unions negotiated a single policy to govern such change processes, allowing staff robust rights to proper consultation and contractual protections. UNISON meet with management on a regular basis to check any consultation documents conform to this agreed policy before they are shared with staff, and ensure that questions can be asked about the proposals. This in turn ensures that the document is clear to the reader in what the intention of the proposal is and any challenges or questions can be raised.

It has also been agreed that if changes are proposed in a particular area, any individual member of staff will, if they wish, be provided with 12 weeks’ notice after a consultation has closed, before any changes take effect. This is to allow each individual to put in place any plans they may feel necessary and is optional for each member of staff to use or not.

UNISON attends consultation meetings supporting all members and can attend any group meetings or 1-2-1’s. Should you require support please contact us on 0161 291 5212 or online at www.unisonmanchesterhealth.org.uk/getsupport to arrange this.

A few consultations we have been involved in recently include:

  • Finance Department – this was completed before Christmas and members were supported through the journey. It was noted that one of the difficulties was transport to Trafford for staff who worked at other sites pre-consultation, therefore UNISON raised this issue and management have now provided a bus to assist members for those relocated staff.
  • Informatics Consultation– This is currently ongoing, and we are supporting members through the process.

Your union is continuing to make sure members are supported whenever changes are proposed
