Calling all Women members!

Unison’s North West Regional Women’s Committee is holding its summer seminar on Saturday 30th July 2022

This years theme is Violence Against Women and Girls: North West Women Leading the Way for Change, with a focus on what women can do to address the appalling and growing violence against women and girls.

Speakers are currently being contacted to cover topics such as community action in Liverpool in the wake of the murder of Ava White and other attacks and attempted attacks on women and girls in the city; an interactive workshop on how to tackle sexual harassment and recruit more women health and safety officers/reps; Early Years education on violence against girls; how to organise a successful campaign in your community and ways UNISON’s welfare charity ‘There For You’ can assist women subjected to violence and abuse.

The event will be held in-person at the UNISON Regional Centre in Manchester but there will also be a facility for people to attend remotely. Arrival for those attending in person will be 9.30am so the event can start promptly at 10am. It will run until approximately 3.30pm with a hot lunch to facilitate time to network.

The overall winner and two runners-up in the Committee’s Women in UNISON Recognition Awards 2022 will be announced and presented with their prizes. These are women nominated by grass-roots members and activists and voted on by the Committee.

The Committee wants to ensure any eligible UNISON member who would like to attend the seminar can do so. Child care can be provided for those who would otherwise have to miss out on attending. Arrangements can also be made to assist anyone who would like to attend in person but who needs help with the cost of travel. Similarly, arrangements can be made to assist anyone who would like to attend remotely but who does not have access to a suitable electronic device.
